The Canteen, Old Portsmouth

Owners Bill and Lucy saw an opportunity to create a first class vibrant deli-style cafe in the historic Hot Walls of Old Portsmouth. As BFES maintains and services their kitchens at the Tenth Hole site in Southsea, they knew that we not only offer service and maintenance, but also design and install.

After a couple of conversations and a look over the CAD drawings and plans, Bill and Lucy were very keen to get the work started. The design and installation process had to be handled with care, due to restrictions on the premises, covered by the Heritage Protection Act.

The kitchen and serving area were designed to complement the local environment. We created a ‘wave’ shaped servery and open kitchen archways, to help with access, but also to be in keeping with the archways along the Hot Walls. As large glass areas at both the front and back of house allowed diners to feel at one with the Solent.

Since opening, The Canteen has gained huge popularity for both its unique decor and feel, and excellent quality of food that people have come to know and expect from ‘The Tenth Hole’.
